English and the Soft Skills connection

Тhe importance of soft skills and how they can benefit your career, language communication, understanding and everyday life.

So, what are soft skills? They're also known as power skills, common skills, or core skills, and they're abilities that can be applied to any profession. Think critical thinking, problem-solving, public speaking, professional writing, teamwork, digital literacy, leadership, professional attitude, work ethic, career management, and intercultural fluency. These skills differ from hard skills, which are specific to certain professions.

The word "skill" itself means the ability to complete tasks, whether it's something as simple as kicking a ball or something as complex as being creative. In this context, soft skills are personal attributes that enable effective interaction. They include social graces, communication abilities, language skills, personal habits, cognitive or emotional empathy, time management, teamwork, and leadership traits. In fact, soft skills can be grouped into three categories: people skills, social skills, and personal career attributes.

So why are soft skills so important? Because they're applicable to any field and can be used in every aspect of your life. They help you adapt and behave positively, even in the face of challenges. With soft skills, you'll be flexible and ready to handle anything that comes your way.

Interest in soft skills has been growing over the years, and more and more people are starting to see their relevance. That's why companies and organizations all over the world are investing in training and development programs for these skills. In fact, the European Commission launched a program called the Agenda for new skills and jobs in 2012, which aims to teach young adults about the importance of soft skills.

So, whether you're just starting out in your career or you're looking to improve your personal life, or improve your speaking skills in English, soft skills are essential. They'll help you succeed in any field and navigate any situation with ease.
